Plantation Trinidad Original Dark Rum is made and aged and blended and aged some more, in a complex process that results in one exceptional dark rum. The base rum is distilled in Trinidad, then aged in American oak barrels under the scorching Caribbean sun. The next stop on its journey is France, where the brand’s cellar master combines it with select old rums from Jamaica (approximating 15-20 years in age). A second ageing in medium toasted Maison Ferrand French oak barrels gives Plantation Trinidad Original Dark Rum time to fully develop its flavour, and mellow into its gorgeous caramel colour. The next thing you know, you’ve got one fine aged rum on your hands. On the nose, Plantation Trinidad Original Dark Rum is nice and rich, with the typical notes of banana, smoke, and toffee. On the palate, the smoke is definitely there too, but gives way to a nice bouquet of fruits—pineapple, mango, and vanilla, balanced by smoky toffee, butterscotch, and dried apricots. The finish sets in with a mixture of dried fruits, raisins and apricots and ginger, with a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon. Such depth of flavour makes Plantation Trinidad Original Dark Rum an elegant sipper, especially after dinner, when the craving for dessert runs high. But it also makes a great cocktail mixer, jazzing up Mai Tais and Daiquiris with a very welcome burst of flavour. If you’re new to aged rums, Plantation Trinidad Original Dark Rum is a great place to start, giving you a well-rounded experience and high quality, especially for the price point.
